Big Sur

So I have had my first public holiday of 2008 here in the States. So for one of the days in the three day weekend, I went to Big Sur. Big Sur is a part of the Californian coastline just over an hour drive south of where I am. It is characterised by big hills that fall abruptly into the ocean [borat]very nice[/borat] :) On the way we went to 17-mile drive and drove past Pebble beach - the famous golf course.

I didn't get to see all of Big Sur, as we only had time for about the top two-thirds, but it was some nice coastline. I was trying to place a similar vista in New Zealand, however I couldn't think of one. Well parts reminded me of the Blenheim to Kaikoura road, but nothing that I could say "oh we have that in New Zealand if you want to see that."

We had lunch at a place (Nepenthe's) with a nice vista, which supposedly is quite famous with American artists, or was a place where they hung out and possibly got inspired (something like that). It was a nice lunch, slightly expensive, but expected. The view was nice, but the weather was unfortunately a bit damp, however it was nothing that ruined the Big Sur experience.

For the rest of the time we were driving and stopping at various points to take photos, stretch and it was a nice relaxing day. There was a funny sign though - namely the one warning of pigs crossing hehe...
