Grasshoppers!

Okay, so this being California, which is right next to Mexico, there are some decent Mexican restaurants to be found. One of them is El Tule - which is named after a town in Oaxaca (pronounced wahaka), Mexico. It comes as no surprise that this restaurant also serves up Oaxacan style Mexican dishes. One of these interesting dishes is grasshoppers! Well it's more of an appetizer you have with chips, but still - grasshoppers!

Earlier I had talked the talked about eating them, so I was keen on giving them a try. So how did they taste? Well they were a bit smaller than I anticipated, and the taste was something that I didn't expect either. I guess I was expecting a bit of a peanut buttery type taste.. Anyway, it was an interesting tangy and bitter flavour. Which went well with the chips and a bit of salsa :) Mmmmm!
